Some acts are content to find a style and stick with it. The Black
Hollies are more interested in progress. When the band convened in
2005 to record their debut, Crimson Reflections, it was something of
an experiment, mixing 60's soul and pop structures with rave-up rock
results. Now, after wide acclaim and a practice regiment that has left
their jaw-dropping live shows tighter than a pegged pant leg, they've
reached a little further into space, introduced a wonderfully
psychedelic element to their sound, and come out on the other side
with Casting Shadows, a powerful rock album full of unforgettable
nuggets.

"Jersey City quartet the Black Hollies inhabit the space between the
apex of mod and the dawn of psych-rock". br>- The Houston Press
"Psychedelic mod rock in modern terms... Although psychedelic rock has
a strong notation for clichˇs such as fuzz guitar, effects, phasing,
Indian influences, and some loud, short jams, courtesy of a blues
influence, truly good psychedelic rock was all about experimentation,
and there were not too many bands that could do it well. The Black
Hollies are damn good at it, which means their music will remind one
of such greats as The Small Faces, The Master's Apprentices, The
Mickey Finn, The Yardbirds, and a few more notables like the
Flowers-era Rolling Stones or the Sold Out-era Who." |
